Thursday November 24, 2021 (London, UK) Alba Rose releases her debut EP, ‘Silhouette,‘ out on November 12 which features four tracks of indie-soul, jazz, contemporary, neo-soul, dream-pop, and indie-pop bliss.
Alba Rose’s first comprehensive body of work as a solo artist is titled ‘Silhouette.’ Silhouette’s creative process has been in the works for just under a year, with her debut single ‘Eve’ published on August 27th, backed by her first music video, and her EP slated on November 12th, 2021.
Three of the four songs were mixed by London-based Jim Macrae (Jordan Rakei, Leifur James, Arjuna Oaks) and one song was mixed by Serebii on this self-produced compilation (Serendipity). Bravo Bonez tracked and mastered the EP in Wellington’s ‘PureSound Studios,’ with Rose’s band (also Wellington-based) performing on all tracks, which includes ex-New Zealand School of Music students Rory Johns (keys), Elijah Mulheron (double bass), and Rafe Swan (drums).
The EP’s main themes include learning to let go, accepting what is, and refocusing energies on the positive aspects of life. The word ‘Silhouette’ encapsulates the idea that there is always a dark side to the brightness. In order to grow and progress, one must learn to tolerate the dark. It’s a metaphor for perspective that encompasses all of the emotions associated with growth and change. The title Silhouette is a play on the Spanish term Alba, which means ‘the first light of the early dawn.’ Alba is a Spanish phrase that translates to English as ‘the first light of the early dawn.’
Alba is best known for her time as the lead singer of the indie-pop band ‘Corduroy,’ with whom she toured New Zealand, performing to sold-out crowds, performing at major summer festivals (Rhythm & Vines, Bay Dreams, TSB Festival of Colour), and supporting international musicians (Great Gable, Spacey Jane). Her solo project began in early 2021, with eclectic compositions influenced by Badbadnotgood, Lianne La Havas, Cleo Sol, Roy Ayres, Erykah Badu, Alice Phoebe Lou, old school jazz, soul & hip hop, and present day indie/alt-pop.
Alba is planning a brief New Zealand tour around the release of the EP, with stops in Auckland, Hawkes Bay, and Wellington. Alba is “progressively on her way to become one of the most prominent voices in the indie-pop music scene south of the Equator,” with a busy summer schedule that includes performances at leading indie summer festivals (Tora Bombora, Le Currents) and events around the North Island.
For this up-and-coming New Zealand artist, there’s a lot on the horizon. To be a part of the beginning, check out her debut EP.
