This song was written by McCay to portray the hardship of maintaining a romantic relationship and of the introspective journey to find oneself during the pandemic lockdowns. These single features were mixed and mastered by the co-producer, Ciaran Bell (aka. Ego Boy).
Hi/Lo & the Tribes is a music-centred collaborative art platform based in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland and Donegal, Republic of Ireland. The platform was created and directed by local artists, Míchéal McCay (singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist).
‘To engage in music-focused, creative art projects with local artists and fellow creatives to expose local talent to a wider audience. The platform aims to engage and inspire the local music scene while aiding in the development of successful careers for all involved.’
Hi/Lo & the Tribes started their journey last year with a Halloween cover of ‘Zombie’ by Jamie T, which is now available on YouTube. The cover featured 3 musicians from local bands: Míchéal McCay (Foreign Owl), Conor Hegarty (Squak) and Ruari Hegarty (No Collusion).
Hi/Lo then commissioned 3 paintings from talented local artists Matthew Donnelly, Nirdosh and Siânna Lafferty which are available to view on the platform’s social media. These paintings represent ‘Hi/Lo’, ‘& the’, and ‘Tribes’ respectively.
Earlier this year, Hi/Lo & the Tribes released its debut single, ‘Teens Don’t Write Diaries Anymore’ with local singer-songwriter, Siânna. This leads to the most recent release of Fear & Loving in College Terrace.
