Shafto, a Clare rapper, will release his new single “Someone” on November 5th. The song is the follow-up to his well-received debut single, Pay Day, from last year, and the second single from his debut album. “Someone,” a motivational song featuring Tasmanian singer Molly O’Brien, tells the listener that with a little effort and self-belief, anyone can be “Someone,” whoever they want to be.
“Now is your time to shine bright, step out of darkness into your spotlight, make that move into your own groove, it might start bumpy but will end up smooth”
Session Parlour Studios in Co. Clare mixed and mastered the song, which was produced by Belfast producer Kronus. Shafto began his career as a producer in his teens, creating beats and joining the hip-hop duo JamNation in county Clare in the early 2000s, when no one was really listening to hip-hop.
Shafto and Golden, his second combo, was created in 2009 after he began penning verses. The duo played a lot of shows in Limerick, Galway, Clare, and Tipperary, and their albums were well-received on national radio.
Shafto chose to go solo in 2018 and has been working on his upcoming album with local Irish and English producers since then.
Shafto has been a part of the hip hop scene for nearly two decades. He began his career as a beat maker and DJ before forming JamNation with his rapper friend Andy Abstract. As the band moved to live gigs, he found himself picking up the pen and creating lyrics. JamNation was known for their old school boom bap style of hip hop, which Shafto has maintained to this day.
